Video: Easy, Cheap, Healthy Vegan Meals That Take Less Than $2 and 15 minutes to Prepare
I get a lot of questions about and requests for me to do videos on cheap and fast vegan meals - so here it is! I was pretty shocked myself when I compared prices at Kroger, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods and found that you can make many meals for $2 or less and spend 15 minutes max preparing it. And that's in San Francisco, which is likely more expensive than most areas of the country/world. Prices depend on whether the ingredients are local, in season or are organic, but you'd be surprised how cheap food can be even if all of the above.

Vegan Tour of Portland, OR with Robert Cheeke (Video)
I really should have posted this last week before Portland was flooded with vegans from Vida Vegan Con...oh well. This is a video I taped a year and a half ago when I visited PDX for the first time thanks to vegan bodybuilder Robert Cheeke - been meaning to edit it ever since but life got in the way until now. We went to so many restaurants and vegan shops in just 4 days, and each place is summarized in about 1 minute in this video. Here's where we went:

The Cinnamon Snail Organic, Vegan Food Truck in NJ (video)
Food trucks are all the rage - somewhere between take-out and dining in at a restaurant, it's a fun and convenient way to eat. Unfortunately, vegan options are often lacking at these meals on wheels, aside from the occasional veggie burger, chili fries, dosa, or gourmet popsicle. However, there are a few saving graces (i.e. vegan food trucks) across the country - there's Seabirds Truck in the Orange County/LA area, Sunny Vibrations up in San Francisco, GMonkey in Connecticut and The Cinnamon Snail in Hoboken New Jersey (and perhaps others I don't know yet). Today I'm excited to feature the latter, a truck I didn't think I'd get to try due to it's seemingly random East Coast location - but taking a little detour on my way to NYC this summer was beyond worth it.

Pure Food and Wine, Raw Restaurant in NYC (Video Review & Interview)
It's so nice to be catching up on all my old videos! Like my last review on 118 Degrees, this piece on Pure Food and Wine has been on my mind since I tapped it last year. In fact, my sister has been bugging me about it because she thinks it's one of the best meals she's ever had with me, and I agree. Watching the footage again reminded me of how incredible the food is there (and how nice NYC is in the summer!).

118 Degrees - Raw, Organic Restaurant. Plus Interview w/ Jenny Ross (video)
In 2005, brand new in LA, I applied to a job ad on Craigslist for a vegan cafe called Taste of the Goddess in West Hollywood, and I was thrilled when I got an interview. But this wasn't any vegan establishment - they made raw food, which was pretty foreign to me. I'm not sure if I ever had raw food before this time - it wasn't really a big deal back in Boston. Well, I got the job and worked there part-time for about 6 months until I got too busy to keep it up - I learned so much about raw food and health from the owners Jenny & Nwenna, I even did a month long cleanse (Ejuva). Sadly, Taste of the Goddess didn't remain open much longer, but the ladies behind it went on to do bigger and better things.

Veggie Grill WeHo: Review & Interview with Kevin Boylan
Had a delicious meal at the new Veggie Grill location in West Hollywood with Christy of Viva la Greens: Chickin' Caesar Wrap, All Hail Kale salad, Sweetheart Fries, Bean Me Up Chili, peach iced tea and lemonade, carrot cake, and chocolate pudding.
Then I met and interviewed Kevin Boylan, the owner. He had some great things to say, and addressed the rumor about having the same recipes as Native Foods.

Lemon-Kissed Brussels and Butternut Squash from The Blissful Chef
Last week Christy Morgan, aka The Blissful & Fit Chef, was in San Francisco as part of her book tour for Blissful Bites. Christy and I became friends while living in L.A., so we made sure to squeeze a video in before she left town. I did a poll on the EVG Facebook page and I was surprised that the recipe chosen by the majority featured Brussels sprouts, a vegetable few people seem to like. However, I was thrilled because I love Brussels, butternut squash, and almonds.

Vegan "Tuna" Salad Using Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans)
In a video I did on Easy, Cheap Vegan Meals I mentioned Chickpea "Tuna" Salad, which costs about $1.50 to make per serving. A reader named Lindsay asked if I could share the recipe, so I thought I might as well do a video too!
