EVG Q&A: Reusable Menstrual/Sanitary Pads & Tampons

Question:
I'm working on going eco-friendly/fair trade/organic and I was wondering what you thought about reusable menstrual pads. I've been thinking about maybe trying them but what about when you're out all day or not able to get home?

Video Interview with Dr. Dennis Godby, Naturopathic Practitioner & Founder of The Run

While at the Natural Products Expo West 2011 I sat down with Dennis Godby, MA, ND to talk to him about his naturopathic medical practice, his upcoming event (The Run), and hear what he had to say about health in general. He's incredibly down to Earth and provided some great tips on how the food that we eat and they way that we live effects how we feel, which is very much inline with my opinions.

Video Guide to Small Reusable Shopping Bags For Produce & Bulk Items

By now, most people at least know that they should bring their own reusable shopping bag to the grocery store. This prevents waste from plastic and paper shopping bags, which get at best a few uses after returning from the store. However, one eco trend that hasn't quite caught on yet is reusable produce and bulk bags - every day thousands of shoppers use the provided small, thin plastic or biodegradable bags at the market without even realizing there's an alternative, and they usually end up in the landfills. Good thing there's a fantastic option: reusable produce bags made from cotton, canvas, or related plastic! Skip to the bottom for the video.

EVG Q&A: Best Vegan Snacks

My cousin is giving vegansim a try (!!!!) and she asked me what my favorite vegan snacks are. This is a great question, because I love to snack. However, it's also a tough one for me because I don't eat gluten, soy, or refined-sugar, and I'm trying not to eat a lot of corn or oil. So I often find myself with nothing I feel like munching on in my kitchen, and you may have the same problem even without the same diet. The best advice I can give is to plan ahead and make a list before going to the grocery store, then stock up on that. This is especially important when transitioning to the vegan diet - the last thing you want is to feel unsatisfied with the food you have on hand and end up eating something non-vegan.

Bi-Rite Creamery: One of the Best Vegan Ice Creams I've Had

One of my favorite aspects of living in a new city is exploring all vegan options, even at non-vegetarian establishments, and San Francisco is full of them! I would say at least 50% of the time I check out a menu I spot the word "vegan" and almost every time I see something I can easily veganize. Tonight after spending some time in Dolores Park I decided to stop by Bi-Rite Creamery and see if the vegan option I read about was worth getting. The flavor was Chocolate Coconut and since the line to order was out the door I figured I had pretty good odds. Boy was I right.

New Gourmet Vegan Restaurant Opening In LA! Introducing: Seed Bistro!!!

I am thrilled to pass on some great news I've had to keep to myself for months: there's a new high-end vegan restaurant opening in Los Angeles by the owners of Seed Kitchen in Venice Beach. Introducing: Seed Bistro!!! This has been Chef Eric's dream for years and I am so happy he finally made it come true. Seed Kitchen has been one of my favorite vegan restaurants and I have been fortunate to work with them on many projects - check out some of the cooking videos below, which are great examples of what you might see on the Bistro menu.

Here's a blurb about the exciting announcement from Seed's Facebook:
Seed Kitchen is proud to announce a new restaurant, Seed Bistro, located in West LA near Brentwood, with easy access from the 405 Freeway. At Seed Bistro you will enjoy a full service dining experience, lunch and dinner. Chef Eric Lechasseur and Sanae Suzuki have created exciting new organic vegan macrobiotic food, elegantly presented, with your health and enjoyment in mind. The menu includes starters, small plates, entrees, course menus and sublime desserts, organic vegan sake, beer and wines. Some wines are sold exclusively to Seed bistro.
The restaurant is projected to open in the new moon toward the end of August to the beginning of September.
They haven't shared any other details about the menu, but it will be more upscale than the Kitchen's cafe style menu. And they have confirmed that there will be gluten-free items.

Of course this happens right as I move out of Los Angeles, but I am going to try to visit for the grand opening. Make sure to add this to your to do list as well!

Video Review: GoPicnic Hummus & Crackers - Vegan, Gluten-free Snacks On the Go

We've all been there - time is running out and just as you're headed out the door you remember you haven't eaten all day. With no time to make or pack food - what to do? Or, you're at the airport about to board a plane and don't want to be stuck without anything to eat or paying $10 for a bag of GMO potato chips. That's exactly why GoPicnic was created.
